Personality
Patronus | Mirror of Erised | Boggart |
N/A Cannot produce a patronus. | Simply he wants to set the wizarding world right and return the power Pureblood witches and wizards wrongly stolen from them by Muggleborns. To achieve this he plans to obtain a job in the Ministry of Magic and quickly climb up the ranks to a high-ranking position, steadily influencing every aspect the Ministry controls. | Thunderstorms. His boggart portrays the storm clouds coming in and the room growing darker, followed by a flash of lightning and a boom of thunder strong enough to shake a room |
Vincent is 16, in Ravenclaw, and doesn't appear to be the dimwitted, jerk Goyle everyone would anticipate with his name. When he came to Hogwarts he had his sights held high on changing the bad taste the name 'Goyle' left in his peers' mouths. He seems warm, charismatic, open, and friendly to everyone and is generally well liked by both the professors and his peers.
I keep saying 'seems like' because he's secretly believes the pureblood mantra that he was exposed to and has some anger management issues. He is driven to take back the control he is certain was stolen from Pureblooded families from the Muggleborns and believes his best chance at doing so is achieving a high level position within the MoM. He has also largely found a way to control his anger - take it all out on someone very weak and defenseless who won't tattle. Otherwise he gets along great with everyone, even if he secretly despises almost everyone he meets.
Vincent is a sociopath. He has a twisted innate pleasure in taking his frustrations out on the weak that will never tell, and nothing gives him more pleasure than to really tear someone apart. Watch your cats around this boy - he has killed a few when the tumultuous tunnel-vision blinds him from seeing anything else.
Otherwise Vince has always had a strong drive to learn and is naturally an inquisitive person. He enjoys most of his classes and has worked hard to get to the top of his year. He suppresses any natural curiosity he experiences when learning of Muggles and their technology and achievements.
Strengths: Loyal, athletic, self-sufficient, driven, sagacious, fast-learning, hardworking, charismatic, innate curiosity, Charms, History of Magic
Weaknesses: Controlling, arrogant, possessive, deceitful, conceited, competitive, manipulative, impatient, hair-trigger temper, Herbology, Care of Magic Creatures
History
Disappointment was the strongest emotion running through Gregory Goyle’s mind following his wife, giving birth to their first daughter. He had been positive that he had succeeded in impregnating Kendra with a son and was openly disgruntled with his new daughter from the moment she was born. Gregory made quick work of trying for a second child, who was also a girl. He tried for a third, and finally Vincent Thaddeus Goyle was welcomed to the world.
Vince quickly became the pride and joy of the Goyle family. It was almost immediately known to his father that Vince did not possess the same shortcomings of the man he had been named after. While Crabbe had been entirely apathetic to most things with a distinct lackadaisical desire to understand the world around him, Vince had an innate curiosity and inquisitive spirit. He was never satisfied with what he already knew and had a great desire to learn more. In short he was the perfect son Gregory Goyle wanted: a son that was unlike himself in every way that mattered and could bring back the respect the surname Goyle previously garnered.
His father impressed upon Vince from a young age that in order to achieve these goals that he would need to become a powerful wizard within the British wizarding community and needed to procure a high-level position within the Ministry of Magic. As such when his sisters got the freedom of doing as they pleased in their early childhood, Vince was surrounded by books and tutors who taught him everything from ancient magic civilizations to etiquette to the influence of Latin in English. He learned very quickly that he could not manipulate his father out of his tutoring sessions like his sisters could easily do with clearing the table after dinner. Gregory Goyle was tenacious and unyielding and was very tough on Vincent. Instead of being captivated by Gregory's tales of the heroics he performed during the Battle at Hogwarts as his sisters were, Vince shied away from his father's reverberating and booming voice and sought the comfort the back of his mother's legs provided.
One thing taught to him by both his parents equally was how their family was wronged by the growing threat of Muggleborns on the wizarding community. He was taught to believe in the pureblooded mentality and that the history books were rewritten in a way that shamed the ancient magic bloodlines. He was taught of the ties to the Death Eaters that the Goyle family had been associated with, but that it was prudent that he keep that knowledge as an unsubstantiated rumor. The anger Vince felt in knowing that he had not taken his rightful place at the height of wizarding society because of these muggles, and now he was expected to be ashamed on how his ancestors reacted was unlike any anger he felt before. On more than one occasion the Goyle temper running through him took over, forcing a punch or two at the walls in his home. When it was time for his sisters to go to Hogwarts, Vince spent the majority of the years under his mother's tutelage in becoming sagacious in his confrontations and finding ways to absolve his anger without showing what he truly felt. In those four years he became the model charismatic son that could change the Goyle family's fortunes.
When it was finally time for him to go to Hogwarts Vince gladly left his father behind and joined his sisters on the Hogwarts Express. Upon being seated under the Sorting Hat it took him nearly five minutes to be sorted into Ravenclaw above Slytherin, and he sadly joined the house of the Eagles. From nearly his first day at Hogwarts it became apparent to his Professors that he was very different than his sisters. While they struggled heavily with her classes and caused trouble, Vince was a model student. His sisters were sullen and bullies to those of lesser blood status, Vince was warm, charismatic and well-liked among his professors and peers alike.
And it was all a farce. The growing contempt he held for Muggleborns and Mudbloods was something he kept well hidden behind wide smiles and engaging conversations. His first few years at Hogwarts Vince found it exceptionally easy to keep what he felt buried but every now and again he would be reminded of why he was better than them. A stupid question in class preventing them from moving forward in class or a lesson in History of Magic on why blood status didn't make him a better wizard. He needed a way to let out his fury without jeopardizing the image he had created for himself. It wasn't until he broke his hand twice after finding his knuckles planted into the stone walls of the castle that he found his perfect victim. Too timid to tell, too weak to defend herself, and a Muggleborn a year younger than himself. She became his playtoy; the girl whose emotions he toyed with while slowly taking more control from her and becoming possessive of her time. He made it his mission to never let her be alone for long without him casually strolling by. The domination he felt in controlling her and making her feel less than human was intoxicating and has largely quelled his angry outbursts.
After helping his sisters practice for Quidditch during their summers off, Vincent tried out for the Ravenclaw team as chaser in his fourth year and made the team easily. He was also offered the position of Ravenclaw prefect in his fifth year. Now that his OWL year has just finished not much has changed. He still has the same ambition of working in the Ministry of Magic, but hasn't decided where he could have the most influence. He does know that he needs top NEWT grades and has been working hard to achieve that. Since the attacks, Vince has found himself walking a little taller. Though he's pissed that he's likely lost his Hogsmeade weekends he revels in the fear it has brought back. Walking through the school and seeing Muggleborns more timid than they normally are - he loves seeing their fear so plainly across their faces. It makes him feel powerful and swells him with pride.
This summer he has managed to procure an internship within the Ministry of Magic, and he's keen to see first-hand how the Statue of Secrecy falling has made the world burn.
