Raeni Mai Fontaine is known for being intelligent, hard-working, influential, manipulative, calculating, and also extremely loyal but willing to destroy someone if need be. Over the years she has crafted a reputation as someone who gets things done by any means necessary and does not take threats or someone attacking her well. While she is willing to attack back and will do so with vengeance, she is also smart and has had time over the years to learn that waiting before striking is always the best course of action. She has also realized that networking is the key to life and has prioritized it in her entire life making sure that she makes connections with certain type of people.
An influential person from her work as a diplomat, she has recognized the use of bribery, fear, sex, blackmail, or the good old fashioned just changed their mind for the better in getting what she wants. She is not afraid to manipulate people in moments when she needs them, and she will never apologize for ever doing her job. At the end of the day, Raeni sees her self as serving the magical world, and will do anything for them. She can be cold at times when it comes to family, despite the deep love she has for her husband and kids. This is because she is a work-horse deep down with an ambitious hungry-power soul which has grown more so with recent events.
History
Raeni Mai Fontaine was born on October 11th, 1980 to her mother Amoy Fontaine and her father Sabine Fontaine in Paris, France. Amoy was a an Alchemy Professor at Beauxbatons School of Magic, and Sabine was a former diplomat to the British Ministry of Magic who had been dismissed over a political dispute and fight with the French Minister of Magic. The Fontaine family name is one of wealthy and influence in the magical community of France. Raeni grew up in France until the age of eight with her visiting her mother's home country of Jamaica a few times a year. When she turned eight her parents moved to England with her father taking a position with the British Ministry of Magic and her mother becoming Alchemy Professor at Hogwarts. Raeni attended Hogwarts in 1992 with her being sorted in the house of Ravenclaw, and becoming the first Fontaine ever to attend Hogwarts. Raeni was extremely close to being sorted in Slytherin due to the ambitious streak, but the cunning and intelligence won her out to Ravenclaw.
In school Raeni made a good amount of friends, and she also focused heavily in her studies with her having a fascination with DADA, COMC, and Charms. She became eventually President of the Charms Club, and also was part of the school newspaper with her articles focusing on different branches of magic, and current political situations going on in the world. In her fifth year she was made a Prefect due to her good grades, participation in several clubs, and being a role-model to other students. During the second wizarding war, Raeni went into hiding with her parents, with them travelling to her grandmother's house in Jamaica considering her family were not supporters of the Voldemort and his movement. After his fall, she came back and finished school graduating in 1999 and taking a job with the Ministry of Magic as an Intern in the International Magical Office of Law.
Within a year however, Raeni got lucky and due to a connection of her dad's was able to secure a position as Policy Aide to a member of the International Confederation of Wizards for the UK. Raeni at this time started to learn Occulmency by a mentor, and various other languages in addition to French and a couple others her parents taught her as a child. In 2003 Raeni started dating a man named Akin Obayana who was a travelling scholar, they quickly married in 2004 just months after Raeni received a promotion to being a member of the International Confederation of Wizards. In 2005 she gave birth to fraternal twins, a boy and girl and helped pass an international law strengthening magical security laws across all magical communities within the same year.
In 2007 Raeni resigned from the International Confederation of Wizards after two years as a member and helping pass several laws, and making dozens of connections. She took a job as an Auror trainee and in 2010 started working as an Auror surprising many with her strength and skill in the field. This position did not last long for her due to Akin grown uncomfortable with her wife putting herself in danger. On August 3rd, 2012 Raeni was ambushed by a group of dark wizards that wanted vengeance for their friends she had captured, the attack caused her to be in St. Mungo's for several days. Akin and Raeni had several fights over this leading her to resign and transfer another section of the Magical Law Enforcement Department. Raeni was hired as an assistant prosecutor, and quickly become a prosecutor in six months due to her ability to catch on quickly.
Over the last 8 years Raeni has worked as a prosecutor and has earned a reputation as an extremely fierce prosecutor who has went after corruption in the Ministry, and major violent crimes. During this time Raeni has been laying ground work for a future in the Ministry with her wanting to become the Head of her department, to even the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamont. Due to this, several parties and fundraisers have been held with Raeni and Akin hosting them and eventually leading to them founding their charity Accio Horizon to help give back to the magical community. In August 2020 Raeni received a promotion to the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement due to her experience, connections, and an ability to get things done.
Raeni used her position to help raise standards for Aurors and Hit Wizards, and to also seize control over more of the department to her position instead of giving the office heads more control. This created much tension and accusations of micro-managing with Raeni defending herself by saying "the department head has a right to assert itself to ensure all offices run smoothly". On April 3rd, 2023 Raeni was at home when she received an alert that the Ministry was under attack, Raeni arrived at the Ministry to find it stormed by masked figures killing everyone they could in sight and causing terror. Little did she and everyone else know the Ministry was not the only place being attacked,with Beaxubatons, Hogsmeade, MACUSA and several other locations falling under attack by whatever group of attackers.
That night changed the world and Raeni's life, as she watched as the Minister for Magic Kingsley Shackebolt being killed during the attack. The attackers left as quickly as they had come, leaving bodies in their wake, and in several locations across the world gaping holes in the magical world that exposed itself to the muggle world. The exposure was to great, with muggles across the world discovering the secrets of the magical world effectively leading the Statue of Secrecy to collapse and be invalid. After the attack the Wizengamont gathered in emergency session and debated on the succession of the Ministry and in a tremendous political brawl Raeni was able to position herself to be appointed as Minister over the Senior Undersecretary with her and allies underlining her background as a diplomat, Auror, prosecutor, and Head of the Law Enforcement department.
Since taking over as Minister a few months ago Raeni has found herself trying to hold together a magical community that had grown used to peace, shocked from the blood and horror that took over the world, and the subsequent silence from the attackers since has lead to more of an anxious public demanding answers. With elections approaching for the position of Minister, Raeni is also struggling to convince a public that she is the right person for the job, and not a care-taker ready to hand the position to someone else.
